What an excursion costs
Time at room temperature is charged against the refrigerated budget at the ratio of the two windows. With a 28 day fridge window and a 2 day room window that ratio is 14, so an hour out costs about 14 hours of shelf life.

About these numbers
The default windows are commonly cited general references, not manufacturer claims for any particular product. That is why the window is an input you can change: if your supplier or your own source gives a different figure, enter it and the calculator uses yours. The window in force is reported alongside every result.
Six hours out of the fridge costs roughly 6.0 hours of equivalent shelf life under the default window, which is why short excursions matter more than people expect.
