What the 28 days is measuring

The 28 day figure in the table is a handling convention for multi-dose vials, not a measurement of SS-31 itself. It comes from how long the preservative in bacteriostatic water is relied on to keep a repeatedly punctured vial usable. It says nothing about whether the peptide inside is still intact, still folded correctly, or still doing anything.

That distinction matters because people often read a storage window as a potency guarantee. It is not one. A vial can be inside its window and degraded, or outside its window and chemically fine. Why room temperature costs so much

The two refrigerated and room temperature rows in the table are not a small adjustment. The warm window is a fraction of the cold one. That gap exists because the preservative system in bacteriostatic water is doing bacteriostatic work, holding growth in check rather than sterilizing, and that work degrades quickly as temperature rises. Warmth also accelerates the ordinary chemical processes that break peptides down.

The practical reading is that the fridge is not an optional refinement. It is the condition the 28 day number assumes. A vial that lives on a counter is operating under the 2 day row, whatever the label says.

Short excursions are the harder case, and this site cannot quantify them. There is no published arithmetic that converts an afternoon on a bench into days deducted from the window. Powder is the stable form

What does change is how much peptide is exposed to that clock. A large vial mixed all at once puts everything into solution on day one. If the amounts in a listing, commonly quoted as 5 mg or 10 mg per dose, mean a mixed vial will not be finished inside the window, the leftover is discarded.
