What the 28 days is measuring
The window is a handling limit, not a potency curve. It comes from how long the preservative in bacteriostatic water can be relied on to hold back microbial growth in a vial that gets punctured repeatedly. Every needle entry is an opportunity for contamination. The 28 day figure is the convention for a multi-dose vial under refrigeration, and it is the same convention applied across a wide range of preserved injectables.
It is not a statement that the peptide inside is chemically intact on day 27 and degraded on day 29. Nobody is measuring your vial. The number is a conservative operating rule, chosen because it is easy to follow and errs toward discarding early.
The clock starts when water goes in. This is the part people get wrong most often. A vial mixed and then left untouched in the fridge for three weeks has three weeks of its window already spent. First use does not reset anything. Write the reconstitution date on the vial with a marker, because you will not remember it.
Why room temperature costs so much
