What a unit on the syringe measures

An insulin syringe is graduated in units, not milligrams. On a U-100 syringe, 100 units fill 1 mL. A unit is a volume marking, and nothing about it is specific to any drug.

So the same mark delivers a different amount of Hexarelin depending on how much bacteriostatic water went into the vial. The peptide arrives as a dry powder of fixed mass. You choose the water volume, that choice sets the concentration, and concentration is what converts milligrams into units.

The arithmetic is one division and one multiplication. Divide the vial contents in milligrams by the water volume in millilitres to get concentration in mg/mL. Divide your intended dose by that concentration to get the volume in millilitres. Multiply by 100 to read it in U-100 units. The table on this page has already done that for every combination listed.

Three things to notice in the table

More water means more units for the same dose. A 5 mg vial in 1 mL sits at 5 mg/mL, in 2 mL at 2.5 mg/mL, and in 3 mL at 1.67 mg/mL. The dose in milligrams has not changed, only the volume carrying it. This is why a chart is useless without the water volume attached, and why quoting a unit count on its own tells nobody anything.

The dose column scales cleanly. Going from 0.1 mg to 0.2 mg at a fixed concentration doubles the units. At 5 mg/mL that is 2 units to 4 units. At 1.67 mg/mL it is 6 units to 12 units. Nothing about the mixing changes when the dose changes, so you can read across a concentration row and scale from there.

Most practically, the unit counts at the highest concentration are very small. A 0.1 mg dose from a 5 mg vial in 1 mL lands on 2 units. There is little barrel between the plunger positions for that draw, and a small error in where you stop is a large error as a fraction of the dose. Using 2 mL or 3 mL of water spreads the same dose across 4 units or 6 units, which is easier to read against the graduations.

Choosing a water volume

There is no correct water volume in a chemical sense. Any of the volumes in the table dissolves the powder and delivers the same milligrams if you read the right unit count. The trade is between read resolution and injection volume.

Less water gives a smaller injection volume but crowds your doses into a few units at the bottom of the syringe. More water gives more units per dose and better resolution, at the cost of a larger volume going in and a vial that empties in fewer draws.

Whatever you pick, write it on the vial. The powder mass is printed on the label. The water volume is not, and once the cap is pierced there is no way to recover it by looking at the vial. A vial with no recorded water volume cannot be dosed from a chart.
